I did not shell out for a Mac because I enjoy that crap.
Over the years I've wasted countless hours installing huge dependency trees, dicking with build scripts and package managers, and struggling to learn archaic interfaces and obfuscationally documented tools which don't stack up to ORCAD from the late 80s. Personally, I'm past the point where I've cut my losses on open source EDA tools on OSX. Then users report OSX specific interface bugs which are never fixed by the dev team because they don't have Macs. While they pay lip service to the (potentially) cross-platform nature of their projects, nobody has a Mac and it's up to someone outside the project to bandage a package together and figure out what kind of hacks you need to do to get a build going. The truth is these open source devs use Linux on the desktop as a religion. The experience with Kicad on OSX is similar. I can limp through getting a library and schematic together in gschem, but every time I've used pcb on OSX there were some game-ending bugs. I've tried to use gEDA on and off for years first on Linux and then on OSX. but i would be interested in what others thought. I know one of the guys that help develop it. The update went smoothly, but the model update causes an almost immediate crash of LTSpice. I have LTSpice on another Intel Mac and just did a software update. I suspect this is a problem with Big Sur not strictly specific to M1 Macs. LTspice has a Show Change Log screen that lists every. The model update was working on BIg Sur with previous versions of LTspice, so I believe this is a new bug in LTspice. This version of LTspice seems to be fully functional on Big Sur as far as editing schematics and executing simulations, but the model update fails. Files in these locations were placed in the Trash and the Trash was emptied. A user can manually update their installed copy by doing a Sync Release from the pulldown menu. I can confirm the same behaviour on an Intel iMac with LTspice version 17.0.33 on macOS Big Sur 11.3.1. If you want to update apps downloaded from the App Store, use the App Store to get updates. That includes the files in /Documents/LTSpice and the contents of /Library/Application Support/LTSpice. If you're having difficulty finding or installing updates: If Software Update says that your Mac is up to date, then macOS and all of the apps it installs are up to date, including Safari, Messages, Mail, Music, Photos, FaceTime, Calendar, and Books.

In my case set up my M1 Mac with the configuration assistant with a bootable drive for my old High Sierra OS Mac mini, so prior to the new install I removed all the LTSpice files I know about before doing an install of the most current download. examples/jigs/ADA4097-1.asc to usr location. When I press the model update button on my new M1 installation I very quickly see "2856] Error copying moving file. If I can run the both the software and model upload procedure without error, even after a fresh install, then I believe that the version is "healthy".
